Shortwave radio uses frequencies between 1.7 and 30 MHz and exploits ionospheric skip propagation to achieve truly global coverage — a shortwave signal can travel continuously around the earth by reflecting between the ionosphere and ground. Shortwave broadcasting is the medium of choice for international news services, religious broadcasters, and radio DXers (distance listeners). Reception varies with solar activity, time of day, and season.
